soft rocks
soft rocks is an experimental movement and sound collective. Committed to the art
of improvisation, this group has been creating and performing together since late summer 2023.
We craft immersive performances dedicated to each space, using varying scores and prompts
that have been created together and gathered along the way. soft rocks emphasizes the sharing of performance spaces in ways that minimize separateness and hierarchy between musicians and dancers, and we seek to create a process-visible experience for the audience, to help make the performances more accessible and relatable.
We have performed in various venues and unconventional spaces in Vermont, including Horsford Garden & Nursery, the Ratsmission rooftop for the 2024 Plex Arts Festival, the “Field Studio” at the Green Glass Door in Shelburne, the Cohen Center for the Arts at UVM, Phantom Theater in Warren, and as part of the Junction Dance Festival at the Briggs Opera House.
